Reading Gaol Hug

The Ministry of Justice has put Reading Gaol up for sale. They want to get as much money as possible for it so plan to sell it for housing. Reading Gaol stands on the site of a scheduled ancient monument (Reading Abbey), possibly has Henry I buried in its car park, and is famous worldwide for being where Oscar Wilde spent most of his sentence for ‘gross indecency’. There is a campaign to convert it to an arts hub and museum. I organised the ‘Reading Gaol Hug’ that happened on 13th Oct 2019 – about 1000 people surrounded the Gaol linking hands.
